Not a phobia at all really, but it is strange. When I'm high up and looking down over a fence, for example, being a few floors up in a shopping centre and looking down over the edge, I suddenly feel as though I might fall down. This can either be that I'll suddenly lose balance and topple over, or that I'll throw myself off, half-accidentally, to see what it feels like. I don't actually contemplate doing this, but I feel as though I might, as I say, half-accidentally do it.

I have a phobia of being trapped in a locked place, whether it's a house, office of closet. I don't fear space or lack thereof, just being locked in.

I have a fear of cantilevered stairs-- as in, I cannot climb normal spiral staircases that are more than, say, two stories -- and the stairs up the insides of towers or domes are simply impossible. I get a horrible shrinking and expanding at the same time sort of feeling, and I have to crouch down on the step or run down very lightly like a cat to the bottom before I feel safe. See-through steps that are cantilevered are the worst. Once I froze on something like the thirty-fifth step up the inside of a huge tower -- I couldn't go up or down. And then this woman came up behind me and froze on the exact same step.

I have an irrational fear of escalators. I have no idea why I am afraid of them. I have to wait for at least 3 steps to go by then I get on and I feel nervous and sick until I get off.
