General animal phobias
Ever since I was little, I've had this horrible fear of daddy long legs. I know they're harmless, but they're so ugly. It's the big ones that hang around the side of brick buildings that especially scare me.

A molting penguin--my first, I was 10--at the Stanley Park Zoo in Vancouver so repelled and fascinated me that bile still rises in my throat and my sinuses tingle whenever I let myself think about it.

Moths. Dusty, chaotic flyers.... winged demons. When I was a kid my Mom was talking to me on the porch. The porch light was on, there were moths flying around and one went into her house. She started choking. It finally was coughed out of her throat. She said she could feel it flying around in her throat. Horrifying.... Ever since then they seem to seek me out and they fly drunkenly all around my face. It's irrational, but I cannot stand them.

I can’t deal with winged beetles. Every summer there are these June Bugs that slam themselves repeatedly against our screen windows like their lives depend on breaking in and attacking me, and there’s something so demented and aggressive about them. I’ve always wanted to go to Costa Rica, but I hear there are Rhinoceros beetles that burrr around like toy helicopters and bang into your face, so I’d have to wear a helmet.
